KOTA BHARU: Two men were charged in the Sessions Court here today with smuggling 14 Myanmar migrants into the country.
The two “tekong darat” or ground handlers of smuggling activities, Mohamad Ezzaq Tasnim Roslan, 32, and Mohamad Syafiq Nazeri, 29, nodded after the charges were read out to them before Judge Nik Habri Muhamad.
However, no plea was recorded.
The two men were jointly charged with committing the offence at a house in Kampung Paloh Rambai, Ketereh, at 4 am last Oct 19.
The charge was framed under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (Act 670), read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which provides imprisonment for up to 20 years, a fine or both if convicted.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Kamilah Che Ibrahim, while lawyer Ahmad Syafiq Aizat Nazri represented the two accused.
