Man killed after motorcycle crashes into tipper lorry

KUCHING: A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a parked tipper lorry at Kampung Muhibbah, Jalan Tanjung Bako, here yesterday (Nov 15).

The accident happened at around 2.30 pm when the victim allegedly lost control of his Modenas Kriss motorcycle before crashing into the right side of the lorry, which had stopped at a corner to carry out earth disposal work.

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the victim, in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics at around 3.45 pm.

His remains were taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for a post-mortem.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving, which carries up to 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine of RM50,000, upon conviction.

Alexson urged any witnesses to come forward or contact traffic investigation officer Insp Charlie Aloysius at 014-8682068, Kuching Traffic Police Office at 082-259900, or the nearest police station.

In light of this, road users are advised to exercise caution and comply with traffic laws to prevent accidents.
