Two ambulance crashes in two days, no one hurt

KUCHING: Two ambulances were involved in separate accidents recently but no one was hurt and only the vehicles sustained damage.

The mishaps occurred in Sarikei on Sunday (Nov 16) and in Kota Samarahan on Monday (Nov 17).

The first accident, Sarikei police chief Supt Aswandy Anis said happened at around 2.30pm along KM436, Pan Borneo Highway.

“Investigations found that the ambulance, driven by a 53-year-old man, exited the junction from Jalan Meruton and moved into the right lane towards Sarikei Hospital.

“A Mitsubishi Triton driven by a 31-year-old man was unable to stop in time due to close proximity and collided into the rear of the ambulance.

“Both drivers were unharmed, and police confirmed that the vehicles sustained only minor damage,” he said.

Aswandy added that the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile, the second accident occurred at around 12.55pm at the INTAN traffic light intersection when an ambulance en route to pick up a patient collided with a Proton Saga.

The ambulance was carrying a driver and two paramedics. Fortunately, all occupants from both vehicles were unharmed.

Firefighters from Kota Samarahan station assisted the crew in safely exiting the ambulance using a ladder.
