KUCHING: Lee Zii Jia has confirmed that he will end his 2025 season ahead of schedule, citing the need to fully recover from persistent injuries before returning to competition next year.
In a statement issued recently, the national men’s singles shuttler acknowledged that the season has been marked by ongoing physical challenges, particularly an ankle injury and recurring back pain that have affected his performance and preparation.
“There are days when I feel on top of the world and days when I feel the effects of coming back from that ankle injury and the nagging back pain,” he said.
Zii Jia last featured at the China Masters in September. Since then, he has been working closely with his team and medical specialists to determine the best course of action for long-term recovery and performance stability.
“After taking account of all the feedback and, most importantly, listening to my body, I feel it is best to close the chapter on 2025 and focus on the upcoming 2026 calendar,” he said.
Describing the year as both demanding and introspective, Zii Jia noted that the enforced break also gave him space for personal growth and new interests beyond badminton.
He thanked his family, friends, team, sponsors and supporters for their continued backing throughout the season, adding that he looks forward to returning stronger.
“I remain motivated and committed to returning to the court. January is just around the corner,” he said.
Zii Jia is expected to make his competitive comeback when the 2026 season begins early next year.
