PADAWAN: Students from nine schools across Padawan recently explored the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) during a week-long programme hosted by SK Bengoh.

The event aimed to spark curiosity and build practical skills in STEM subjects through interactive and engaging activities.
Highlights of the programme included building wooden bridge models and participating in a 70-metre water-bottle rocket challenge, which tested students’ understanding of scientific principles such as thrust, water volume and pressure.
Quizzes, balloon rocket challenges and other hands-on tasks gave pupils opportunities to experiment, problem-solve and collaborate with their peers.
Schools taking part were SK Bengoh, SK Pangkalan Ampat, SK Pelaman Sigandar, SK St Patrick, SK St Paul, SK St Francis Xavier, SK Taba Sait, SK Puruh Karu and SK Kambug.
SK Pangkalan Ampat emerged as the winner of the water-bottle rocket competition, followed by SK St Paul Bunuk and SK Bengoh in second and third place, respectively.
The closing ceremony, officiated by SK Bengoh headmaster, David Jemang, highlighted the value of practical STEM learning by giving students the opportunity to apply classroom concepts in real-world scenarios while fostering creativity and innovation.
Organisers said the week demonstrated that interactive STEM activities can ignite students’ enthusiasm for science and technology, encouraging them to explore and develop critical thinking skills that will benefit their future education.
