KUALA LUMPUR: Menara Merdeka 118 lights up in blue from November 20 to 24 to commemorate World Children’s Day 2025 and Malaysia’s ‘Janji Kita’ promise.

Malaysia’s tallest tower and Taman Jaya Park will symbolically connect national leadership with community spirit, reinforcing the shared commitment to ensuring children’s rights are protected, respected and integrated into everyday life nationwide.

“World Children’s Day is a moment for us to renew our shared promise to every child in Malaysia,” said UNICEF Representative to Malaysia and Special Representative to Brunei Darussalam, Robert Gass.

“The lighting of Merdeka 118 signifies hope for children, representing ongoing efforts in education, healthcare, digital learning and child protection since Malaysia’s ratification of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1995,” he said.

PNB Merdeka Ventures stated that Merdeka 118, built as a symbol of national pride, now stood as an inspiring reminder of Malaysia’s dedication to uplifting and safeguarding its younger generation.

“On November 22, Taman Jaya Park in Petaling Jaya will host the ‘Go Blue in the Park’ festival, offering families immersive activities combining play, creativity and learning about children’s rights,” he said.

A key feature is UNICEF’s ‘My Day, My Rights’ Phone Booth, where children can record messages expressing hopes, concerns and ideas for their future and communities.

“These raw reflections highlight that children’s voices matter deeply, emphasising their role as essential contributors to decision-making processes affecting everyday life across Malaysia,” he added.

He said that families would also enjoy storytelling, drumming circles, art sessions, a fun run and other engaging programmes celebrating inclusivity, play and shared community responsibility for children’s welfare.

“At sunset, Taman Jaya will turn blue at 6:45 pm, symbolically linking local communities to nationwide efforts to honour and strengthen Malaysia’s child rights commitments.

“Throughout Malaysia’s ASEAN chairmanship in 2025, children and youth have contributed significantly to regional discussions, including climate issues, online protection and policy development,” he said.

“Their participation at the ASEAN Children and Youth Climate Summit and the ASEAN ICT Forum reflects a growing recognition of their meaningful influence on shaping regional priorities.

“This year’s World Children’s Day theme, ‘My Day, My Rights’, underscores that child rights must be lived daily, not observed only during annual celebrations,” he said.
