SARIKEI: A month-long anti-narcotics operations across Sarikei, Belawai and Tanjung Manis culminated in the arrests of 98 individuals, including four women.
Carried out from Oct 20 to Nov 20, ‘Ops Tapis Khas Narkotik’ saw one suspect detained under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, 17 arrested under Section 12(3), and 80 drug addicts picked up under Section 15(1)(a).
Sarikei police chief Supt Aswandy Anis said the sweep also led to the seizure of 20.98 grammes of suspected syabu worth RM2,307.
“Throughout the period, police have opened a total of 91 investigation papers involving 94 male and four female suspects.
“Since the operations began, 86 individuals have been charged in court for their respective offences,” he said.
Aswandy said the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) will continue to intensify enforcement efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse.
