KUCHING: A traffic enforcement sweep around Pangkalan Sapi, Jalan Astana, resulted in the confiscation of 24 motorcycles that had undergone serious and illegal modifications.

Police said the machines were found fitted with altered exhaust systems, structural changes, and other modifications deemed as severe under Section 60(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The operations, codenamed Ops Samseng Jalanan, was carried out by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division as part of efforts to curb reckless riding and clamp down on heavily modified motorcycles linked to illegal street activities.

The overnight operation, held from 9:00 pm on Saturday night until 4:00 am today, saw officers inspecting 70 individuals and 62 motorcycles.

A total of 92 summonses were issued for various offences, including riding without a valid licence, expired road tax and insurance, non-specification licence plates, and non-compliant side mirrors.

Police said similar targeted operations will be conducted to ensure safer roads and deter street-related offences in the city.
