BAU: Police have arrested 14 locals, including a woman, during two operations codenamed ‘Ops Tapis Khas’ and ‘Ops Waran Tangkap’ yesterday (Nov 25).
Held between 5.45 am and 5 pm, the district police headquarters (IPD) together with the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) conducted the raids in Sebuku area, Kampung Kaman, and Kampung Sibuluh.
Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the suspects, aged between 23 and 46, were mainly labourers and unemployed individuals.
“Among them was a man detained under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADA) 1952, while two men were held under Section 12(2) ADA 1952 for possessing three plastic packets containing crystalline substances suspected to be drugs.
“The total weight of the seized drugs was 13.53g with an estimated street value of RM1,300,” he said.
Background checks found that nine had prior drug-related records, while the remaining five are first-time offenders.
Preliminary urine tests showed that all of the suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, and they will be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Mohd Haide said some of them confessed to taking drugs either the day before or on the day of their arrest.
They are currently being held at Bau police lockup to facilitate investigations.
