KUCHING: Narcotics police have arrested three local men for allegedly possessing suspected methamphetamine worth RM605 earlier this week.
At around 1:20 pm on November 25, the team found the suspects, aged between 21 and 35, behaving suspiciously inside a vehicle in Petanak area.
Further checks led to the discovery of nine plastic packets containing suspected methamphetamine, weighing 5.50 grammes with its estimated value at RM605.
Kuching Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, said the suspects’ preliminary urine tests returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
“Background checks found that one had a prior record related to drug abuse while, the other two are first-time offenders.
“All the suspects have been remanded for four days until Nov 30 to assist investigations,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries imprisonment up to to five years and whipping up to three times, if convicted.
Alexson said the arrest was the result of continuous intelligence work and cooperation from the public.
