SIBU: Seven suspected illegal gambling premises were plunged into darkness after police, with help from Sarawak Energy Berhad (Sesco), cut their electricity supply during a targeted enforcement sweep.

The three-hour operation on Saturday (Nov 29) was conducted under Section 21A of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the section allows police to cripple unlawful gambling activities by shutting down power to premises used for such operations.

“Investigations confirmed the premises had been involved in illegal gambling activities.

“Therefore, police officers moved in with Sesco to disconnect their electricity supply,” he said.

Zulkipli assured that police will intensify efforts to stamp out illegal gambling and stern action will be taken against anyone found involved in such activities.

Members of the public are urged to continue channelling information on illegal gambling to support ongoing enforcement.
