SARATOK: A sweeping year of traffic operations has delivered strong results, with police recording a surge in summonses and a notable drop in accident cases — a payoff they credit to relentless boots-on-the-ground enforcement.

From Jan 1 to Nov 30, the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Division carried out 84 integrated operations, along with targeted crackdowns under ‘Ops Motosikal’, ‘Ops Kenderaan Berat’, ‘Ops Pematuhan Lalulintas’ and ‘Ops Pelbagai’.

Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Maggie said all the operations were executed under the close watch of Insp Stephen, who leads the division.

“This year alone, our traffic personnel have issued a total of 1,351 summonses, along with 18 postal notice summonses,” he said, adding that sustained pressure on the roads had contributed to a safer road environment.

In addition, serious accidents have dipped as officers intensified ground checks and carried out total enforcement across the district.

“From the 82 accident cases recorded this year, five were investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, three under Section 43, while 74 were opened under the Road Traffic Rules 1959,” he said.

Mathew said the division’s mission is to reducing accident rates while educating the public on road laws.

“The division will continue its momentum with ongoing operations aimed not only at taking action against offenders, but also at shaping responsible driving habits,” he said.

“To strengthen enforcement, the traffic division will continue working closely with the Road Transport Department (RTD), Department of Environment (DoE) and local councils to ensure road laws are followed without compromise across Saratok,” he said.
