SARAWAKIANS today expect faster services, more responsive governance and greater efficiency in the delivery of government policies and programmes.
In response, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state administration cannot afford to be reactive by addressing issues only after they arise.
“As Sarawak progresses into new frontiers of the economy — our rakyat’s expectations are also evolving.

“The civil service must rise to go beyond the expectations of the rakyat, anticipating Sarawak’s challenges, and being ever ready to realise our rakyat’s aspirations,” he said in his ministerial winding up at the DUN sitting today (Dec 3).
Abang Johari stressed that his administration is determined to shape a civil service that is dynamic and efficient amid rapid change.
“We are continuously investing in our people, enhancing our leadership capability, and adopting digital transformation to enhance our delivery systems,” he added.
Every year, he said Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) officers across all grade levels are given opportunities to attend world-class leadership and professional programmes that enhance their competencies, innovation, and global exposure.
“This demonstrates our commitment to all levels of staff, irrespective of gender, ensuring inclusiveness in capacity building. These valuable learning experiences have strengthened the SCS talent pool, preparing our next generation of leaders to propel Sarawak forward,” he said.
He added the Sarawak government is also undertaking a comprehensive exercise to restructure departments and agencies to enhance efficiency, eliminate overlapping functions and improve service delivery.
“Through better coordination, streamlined processes, and clear accountability, we aim to establish a leaner, more responsive and performance-driven administration. An administration that delivers faster, smarter and with greater impact for the rakyat,” he added.
