KUCHING: Sarawak’s reputation as a leading cultural and tourism destination has been further strengthened with the launch of the international-scale Helios exhibition by UK artist, Luke Jerram, at the Borneo Cultures Museum.
Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said the exhibition reflects Sarawak’s commitment to hosting world-class attractions under the Sarawak Tourism Master Plan 2021-2035.
“By hosting international exhibitions such as Helios, we continue to elevate Sarawak as a destination for tourism, education and business events through meaningful experiences,” he said at the launch today.
Abdul Karim also highlighted the importance of ensuring that all communities in Sarawak see themselves represented in the museum, reflecting the state’s multicultural identity comprising 34 ethnic groups.
“When every community feels represented, it creates unity and a sense of belonging. That is one of the core roles of the Borneo Cultures Museum,” he said.
He further encouraged the Sarawak Museum Department to continue bringing in more international and blockbuster exhibitions in the future, including major historical displays.
He also urged parents and schools to take advantage of the year-end school holidays to bring students to the museum.
