BINTULU: South African-born restaurant chain Nando’s officially opened its first Bintulu outlet at The Spring Bintulu yesterday, bringing its signature flame-grilled PERi-PERi chicken to the coastal city ahead of the festive season.

Nando’s Malaysia chief commercial officer Chai Hui Fung said the team is thrilled to finally join the local community.

“Bintulu has such a warm, welcoming spirit, and we’re excited to finally bring Nando’s to the community here. If we can bring people together over a plate of PERi-PERi chicken and a little South African warmth, that already feels like a great start,” she said in a statement.

Founded in South Africa and inspired by Portuguese flavours, Nando’s is known for its chicken marinated for 24 hours in African Bird’s Eye Chili before being flame-grilled to stay juicy, tender and healthier. Customers can pick flavours from Lemon & Herb to Extra Hot.

The Bintulu outlet serves sharing platters, bowls, burgers, wraps and vegetarian choices, with family-sized tables for larger groups and cosy seating decorated with colourful South African patterns for smaller gatherings.

Nando’s also offers bottomless soft drinks, coffee and hot chocolate, along with unlimited PERi-PERi sauce. Fans can join its loyalty programme via the mobile app to earn rewards — including a full chicken meal after just three visits.

The restaurant features original Southern African artwork and upbeat Afro-Luso music, creating a relaxed atmosphere suited for casual meetups, date nights or a quick meal.

Nando’s Bintulu is located at Lot No. G41, Ground Floor, The Spring Shopping Mall. From December 9 to 12, the first 100 customers who purchase a bottomless drink each day will receive a complimentary quarter chicken.
