KUCHING: Malaysia’s long wait for a SEA Games men’s team badminton gold stretches on after a 0-3 loss to regional rivals Indonesia in the final at Pathum Thani’s Thammasat University Rangsit Campus, Bangkok on Wednesday.

The final got off to a rough start as Leong Jun Hao fell 12-21, 19-21 to Alwi Farhan in the opener, giving Indonesia the early edge.

Next up, world-class duo Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, 2022 men’s doubles world champions, couldn’t turn the tide, going down 12-21, 12-21 to Indonesia’s Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani in 34 minutes.

Both admitted unforced errors proved costly and rued missing the chance to level the tie.

In the final singles showdown, Moh. Zaki Ubaidillah secured gold for Indonesia for a second straight edition, defeating Justin Hoh 21-12, 21-14 in 43 minutes.

Malaysia will now shift their attention on the remaining individual events as the 2025 SEA Games badminton tournament rolls out until Sunday.
