KUCHING: A labourer was sentenced to seven years’ jail and two strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court today for robbing a woman at knifepoint, taking RM60 in cash.
Azeezy Nur Azezan, 32, from Kampung Tabuan, pleaded guilty when the charge was read before Judge Jason Juga.
According to the charge, Azeezy committed armed robbery against a 33-year-old woman by pointing a knife at her and demanding money, before fleeing with RM60.
The incident occurred at an open-air eatery along Jalan Kenyalang at about 11:30 pm on November 22.
He was charged under Section 392 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 397.
Based on the case facts, the complainant was eating at the shop counter when she was suddenly approached by an unknown man wearing a helmet.
The suspect then brandished a knife and ordered her to hand over her money.
Fearing for her safety, the woman surrendered RM60 in cash and her mobile phone. The accused fled immediately after.
A police report lodged by the victim later led to the suspect’s arrest on December 7. Investigations confirmed he had committed the armed robbery.
Deputy Public Prosecutor, Ruvinasini Pandian, prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.
