KUCHING: Sarawak’s Jared Foo Dun Liang is set for national duty after being named to the National Junior Badminton Squad for the 2026 intake.

Based on an official offer letter issued by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) dated December 11, 2025, Jared has been awarded a scholarship placement at the Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM), commencing January 1, 2026, following the successful completion of his required medical assessments.

He is scheduled to report to ABM on January 11, 2026.

Jared’s selection marks a significant milestone and recognition of his outstanding performances and potential.

The Sarawak Junior Under-16 champion has consistently delivered strong results at both state and national levels.

In November 2025, he was nominated by the SBA to BAM for the Talent Identification (TID) programme, where he impressed national coaches and earned his place in the national junior setup.

In a statement issued recently, SBA’s President, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, congratulated Jared on his achievement.

“Jared’s selection into the national junior squad is a proud moment for Sarawak badminton. It reflects his dedication and discipline, as well as the effectiveness of SBA’s structured junior development and talent identification pathway.

“We are confident that this exposure at the Akademi Badminton Malaysia will further develop his potential at the highest level,” he said.

SBA’s Honorary Secretary, Datuk Dr Wan Khalik Wan Muhammad, added that Jared’s journey from Sarawak Junior Under-16 champion to SBA nominee for the TID programme, and now into the national junior squad, is a clear example of how Sarawak players can progress through the right pathway.

“SBA remains committed to identifying, nurturing, and supporting our young talents in close collaboration with BAM,” he said in the same statement.

The SBA extended its heartfelt congratulations to Jared and his family, and looks forward to supporting him as he embarks on this important chapter with the National Junior Team.
