KUCHING: Police rounded up 59 individuals during a nine-day citywide drug sweep, disrupting multiple drug-related activities and seizing narcotics worth more than RM2,600.
The operation, codenamed ‘Ops Tapis Khas Narkotik’, was carried out by the district police headquarters (IPD) from Dec 6 to Dec 14 to curb drug distribution and abuse in the district.
Various types of drugs were seized throughout the period, including 23.84g of methamphetamine and 0.90g of Erimin 5 pills, with the total haul estimated to be worth RM2,682.40.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said 11 individuals were arrested for possession offences — two under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and nine under Section 12(2).
The remaining 48 suspects were detained under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act for substance abuse.
He added that the operation’s success was driven by continuous intelligence-gathering efforts and strong cooperation from the public.
“Police will not compromise with any party involved in drug-related activities, as possessing, trafficking or protecting such activities are serious offences under the law.
“The Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) assured that they committed in combating drugs to safeguard present and future generations,” he said.
