KUCHING: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has called for stronger accountability and tangible reforms following the Federal Cabinet reshuffle announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said the reshuffle must strengthen accountability, improve Cabinet coordination and accelerate policy delivery, urging ministers to focus on easing living costs, strengthening the economy and upholding integrity.
Yap congratulated ministers and deputy ministers entrusted with new or expanded portfolios, expressing hope they would discharge responsibilities effectively in service to the nation.
“A Cabinet reshuffle is not an end in itself; its true measure lies in the government’s ability to deliver reforms promised to the rakyat,” he said in a press statement on Wednesday (Dec17).
Yap stressed that Malaysians continue facing pressing challenges which require decisive action, particularly the rising cost of living burdening low and middle income households nationwide.
He also underscored the urgent need to strengthen economic confidence and job security amid uncertain conditions affecting businesses, traders and workers across multiple sectors.
Yap said small and medium enterprises require clearer policy direction, reduced bureaucratic hurdles and consistent support to sustain growth, create quality employment and attract long-term investment.
“Public expectations are for higher standards of governance and integrity,” he said, calling for firm action against corruption and greater transparency in public procurement processes.
In this context he warned that perceived double standards or selective enforcement could erode public trust, stressing the importance of consistency, accountability and clarity within ministries.
“Improving public service delivery is another key priority, as delays, overlapping agency roles and weak coordination continue hampering efficiency in essential sectors,”he said.
He cited education, healthcare, housing and public infrastructure as areas where inefficiencies directly affect the rakyat and require urgent corrective measures.
“Livelihood-related policies must be clearly explained, consistently implemented and refined through public feedback,”he said.
He cautioned that good intentions without proper execution and communication would fail to produce meaningful outcomes for communities on the ground.
