KUCHING: Enforcement raids across two districts yesterday (Dec 20) ended with 55 undocumented foreigners in custody over various alleged immigration-related offenses.
The Sarawak Immigration Department said the team had swooped in on commercial areas and residential quarters in Kuching and Bau, suspected of employing or harbouring undocumented foreign nationals.
Backed by a 24-strong team from the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division, officers fanned out the commercial areas in Siniawan Central and around Mile 3 here.
The team later moved into residential zones, zeroing in on rental rooms at Taman Matang Bersinar and Taman Satria Jaya, and a workers’ quarters near the Simpang Tiga roundabout.
Coordinated checks had uncovered multiple offences of the Immigration Act 1959/63, resulting in the detention of 55 individuals of various foreign nationalities.
All those detained were taken to the Kuching Immigration Office for further investigation.
The department stressed that enforcement actions will be carried out regularly as part of ongoing efforts to uphold immigration laws and curb the presence of illegal foreigners in Sarawak.
