TAIPEI: Sarawak’s elite marathon runners narrowly missed the state marathon record at the Taipei Marathon today (Dec 21) but returned with several personal best performances.

Team Haolian’s Elite Seven comprises Sarawakians from Kuching, Saratok, and Sibu who train at an elite level while balancing full-time careers.

The team aimed to break the Sarawak marathon record of 2:39:57 set by Mohd Jironi at the 2016 Kuala Lumpur Marathon but were unable to surpass it.

Fastest among the Sarawak runners was Andy Yeo, who clocked a new personal best of 2:42:04 over the full marathon distance of 42.195 kilometres.

To date, Miri Malaysia Games (SUKMA) coach, Mohd Jironi, still holds the Sarawak marathon record, set nine years ago
