AS we all step into the New Year 2026, many are taking a moment to reflect on their hopes and wishes for the year ahead.
Sarawak Tribune caught-up with some seniors from different parts of the state to get a glimpse of their aspirations for the coming year.

Their reflections offer clear perspectives on the values they hold dear – health, happiness, prosperity and the success of future generations.
Seniah Ellen, 62, expresses, “For 2026, I hope for a year filled with good health and happiness for my family and the community. I also wish for more opportunities for our youth to learn, grow, and contribute positively to Sarawak’s development.”

Seniah’s words reflect a deep concern not just for personal well-being, but also for towards nurturing the younger generation to acquire the relevant knowledge, skills and aptitude in shaping the state’s future.
Similarly, 61-year-old Sandrawaty Yusof shared her aspirations for health and prosperity.
“My resolution for 2026 is to stay healthy and free from illness. I hope our younger generation achieves success, lives in peace, and finds good employment opportunities,” she said.
Sandrawaty’s aspiration highlights the importance of well-being and stability, as she emphasises best wished for younger generation to build secure and fulfilling lives.
Nurliza Haslin Muslim, also 61, focused on happiness and positivity in her personal and professional life.

“I wish for a healthy life for myself, my family, and my grandchildren. To everyone I work with, may we share a happy, positive, and fulfilling year together,” she said.
Her statement reflects a sense of communal spirit, underscoring the joy of working and living together in harmony.
Hamdiah Nerawi, 64, shared her vision for a stronger and more self-reliant Sarawak.
“In 2026, I hope to see a stronger focus on food security and economic self-reliance, empowering local families to thrive through sustainable agriculture and home-based entrepreneurship.
My wish is for Sarawak’s modern digital education reaches every rural child, ensuring our future generations are globally competitive while remaining deeply rooted in our community values,” she said.

For these seniors, 2026 is more than just a new year.
It represents a fresh start filled with hope, health, and the opportunity to see their families and communities thrive.
Their messages remind everyone of the value of caring for one another, nurturing youth, and empowering communities.
