BAU: A narcotics sweep across four villages here yesterday (Jan 4) led to the arrest of eight local men believed to be involved in drug abuse and possession, with suspected methamphetamine also seized.

The four-hour operation was carried out by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) at Kampung Peninjau Baru, Kampung Peninjau Lama, Kampung Kopit and Kampung Plaman Sega.

Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the suspects, aged between 20 and 34, were taken into custody for further investigation.

“Three of them are being probed under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after police found each in possession of a small plastic packet containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine.

“Preliminary urine screening tests conducted on all the suspects returned positive results for drugs, and they are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.

He stressed that firm actions will be taken against anyone involved in drug abuse and related offences.

Members of the public are advised to report information on drug-related activities to Bukit Aman NCID hotline at 012-208 7222 or Sarawak NCID hotline at 017-592 9211.
