KUCHING: The Padawan Child Council successfully conducted the election of its executive committee, followed by its first meeting for the year 2026, held at the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) Chamber today.
Chairman of MPP Tan Kai said this initiative reflects one of the Council’s commitments under the Child-Friendly Cities Initiative (CFCI) led by United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
He added that being a child-friendly local authority is also part of the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy, with social inclusivity as one of its main pillars.
“With the voices of children in Padawan being heard, no one will be left behind,” he said during the meeting.
He hoped that through the Padawan Child Council, Padawan will continue to grow as a more inclusive, caring and better place for all, where children’s voices are valued and reflected in community development and decision-making.
For the record, the Padawan Child Council was appointed in March 2025 and has since actively contributed ideas to the development of Padawan by voicing children’s perspectives during the planning stages as well as in the implementation of Padawan CFCI Action Plan.
Also present were MPP deputy chairman Mahmud Ibrahim, MPP minnicipal secretary Goh Thiam Ho, UNICEF representatives Sarah Lasung and Laura Kho, members of the Padawan Child Council; and heads of Divisions of MPP.
