KUCHING: The temporary repair work on the 1050mm Mild Steel Cement Lined (MSCL) pumping main at Jalan Haji Baki, Batu Kitang, has been successfully completed, with welding works finalised at approximately 7.30 am today (Sunday, Jan 11).
Following the repair, Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd said the water supply system is being progressively restored.
Consumers are advised that water pressure will improve gradually as the pipeline is re-pressurised in a controlled manner to ensure system safety and operational stability.
“During this recovery period, some areas may experience temporary discoloured or cloudy water. This is a short-term condition caused by the disturbance of sediments within the pipeline following the repair,” it said in a statement posted at its official Facebook page.
The utility company added that systematic flushing operations are being carried out in stages at designated points to remove residual sediments, improve water clarity, and stabilise overall water quality.
Residents experiencing discolouration are advised to allow the water to run briefly.
Sarawak Water assured that water tanker services remain on standby and will be deployed to areas with no water supply during the recovery period.
“We appreciate the patience, cooperation and understanding of the public while these essential works were undertaken to safeguard the reliability of the water supply system,” it added.
