MIRI: Firefighters have rescued a 72-year-old man who became trapped on a tree after falling while working in his orchard in Batu Niah.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said it received an emergency call shortly after 10 am on Tuesday (Jan 13) reporting that the man had fallen from a tree and was unable to free himself at Kampung Pengkalan Lobang, near Batu Niah.
A fire engine from the Batu Niah Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched immediately, arriving at the scene within minutes.
Rescuers found the man, identified as Liew Yew Fook, hanging by his leg from the branches of a tree about seven feet above the ground.
The incident occurred in the victim’s orchard, located around 200 metres from the main road, requiring firefighters to make their way through uneven terrain to reach him.
The rescue team carried out a controlled operation to lower the man safely to the ground before assisting him out of the orchard and back to his home.
Fire officials said the man sustained only minor injuries to his leg and was in a stable condition following the incident.
The operation was completed within half an hour, with firefighters returning to their station shortly afterwards.
