MIRI: Police have arrested two local men in connection with the theft of a motorcycle in Lutong Baru earlier this month, resolving two separate motorcycle theft cases.
Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said a local woman lodged a report after her Kriss MJ110 motorcycle was reported missing at about 12.40 am on Jan 7.
Acting on information, officers from the Miri district police headquarters Criminal Investigation Department arrested the suspects, aged 26 and 31, during operations conducted on Jan 15 and 16.
Police also recovered two stolen motorcycles which had previously been reported missing.
“Following the arrests, two motorcycle theft cases have been successfully solved,” Mohd Farhan said in a statement.
Both suspects have been remanded to assist investigations until Jan 19 and Jan 20 respectively. Police checks revealed that both men have prior criminal records involving theft and drug abuse.
The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code, which carries a mandatory jail term of between one and seven years and a fine upon conviction.
