Back-to-back fires torch cars, excavator in two districts

KUCHING: Three separate fires involving vehicles and heavy machinery were reported in two districts within a span of several hours, keeping firefighters busy late Monday night and early this morning.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the incidents occurred in Kuching and Bintulu, with no injuries or casualties reported.

In Kuching, a car parked by the roadside along Jalan Tai Shin Jar, Hui Sing was almost completely destroyed after it caught fire at around 10.25 pm last night.

Firefighters from Batu Lintang station arrived to find the vehicle already about 90 per cent engulfed in flames.

The blaze was quickly doused using water sourced from the fire engine.

About an hour later, another fire involving an excavator was reported along Lorong Stampin Tengah 7 at 11.30 pm.

Firefighters from Kota Sentosa station found an excavator partially on fire, with about 20 per cent damage sustained, and extinguished the flames using water supplied from their fire engine.

Meanwhile in Bintulu, a car was completely destroyed in a fire along Jalan Kidurong–Bintulu at around 7 am today.

The 45-year-old driver managed to escape from the vehicle safely before the fire intensified.

Firefighters from Kidurong station found the vehicle fully engulfed and put out the fire using water from their fire engine.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred in all three cases are still under investigation.
