SARATOK: The completion of the Sungai Krian Bridge alongside eight others this year serves as tangible proof that the Sarawak Government honours its commitments to the people.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas described 2026 as a landmark year for the state’s infrastructure development, with nine bridges scheduled for completion.
“The Sungai Krian Bridge will be completed and operational by March, with eight other bridges to follow. These completed structures demonstrate that Sarawak delivers on its word, ensuring infrastructure projects yield substantial benefits that enable our communities to advance alongside their counterparts elsewhere,” he said.
Uggah made these remarks to reporters following the successful connection of the final structural segment of the Sungai Krian Bridge on Monday.
The Deputy Premier emphasised that the bridge’s completion would transform connectivity between Pusa District, Kabong, and Saratok, eliminating reliance on ferry services.
“This bridge links to the Batang Saribas 2 bridge and the road network to Roban. As part of the Sarawak Government’s Coastal Road initiative, these developments will enhance accessibility and unlock economic opportunities in tourism and modern agriculture for surrounding communities,” he explained.
Uggah highlighted the anticipated socio-economic benefits, including increased local incomes generated by higher volumes of road users purchasing regional products and produce.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri, Beting Maro assemblyman Datuk Razaili Gapor, Krian assemblyman Friday Belik, Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) director Datuk Dr Cassidy Morris, and Betong Division JKR engineer Jason Ng Boon Tuan.
