SARATOK: The Sungai Krian Bridge project has reached 95 per cent completion, with the remaining works expected to be completed in time for its planned opening in mid-March, before Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
The RM112 million project, which has been under construction since March 25, 2019, is being built by EPR (Kuching) Sdn Bhd.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said favourable weather conditions over the next month would be crucial to ensure the final five per cent of works can be completed as scheduled.
“We are hopeful the weather will continue to be good as we are targeting to complete the Sungai Krian Bridge before Hari Raya Aidilfitri, so it can be opened for public use before Syawal,” he told reporters after officiating the connection of the final segment of the bridge structure here on Tuesday (Jan 20).

He said the bridge is scheduled to be opened to traffic on March 15.
The Sungai Krian Bridge spans a total length of 1.227 kilometres and links directly to the Coastal Road Project Package A5 towards Roban, providing a strategic alternative route to the Pan Borneo Highway.
Uggah, who is also Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, said the bridge would significantly reduce reliance on ferry services, which have long served as the main crossing in the area.
“With the completion of this bridge, the usual ferry crossing time of about 15 minutes is expected to be reduced to just around one minute,” he said.
“Through the collective efforts of all parties involved, Sarawak will be able to benefit from another vital transport infrastructure,” he added.
Also present were Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri, Beting Maro assemblyman Datuk Razaili Gapor, Krian assemblyman Friday Belik, PWD director Datuk Dr Cassidy Morris and Betong Division JKR engineer Jason Ng Boon Tuan.
