KUCHING: School students in Petra Jaya here were introduced to legal education and civic awareness through the Hak Kitak Programme: School Edition, which was officiated at SMK Tunku Abdul Rahman today (Jan 24).

Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, said in a Facebook post that the initiative aims to educate students about their rights and responsibilities in a manner that is approachable and easy to understand.

He praised Tan Sri Professor Ahmad Ibrahim, the organiser and driving force behind the programme, for adopting the school as a partner institution.

Fadillah also expressed his appreciation to the school management, teachers, students, strategic partners and volunteers involved in the programme.

“Every student has rights, and every right must be respected. At the same time, students must understand their responsibilities as members of the school and the wider community,” he stated.

He said the programme provides students with knowledge on how to seek help through appropriate channels.

“The programme exposes students to proper channels for seeking help, including teachers, counsellors, school administrators, parents, or authorities, encouraging them to speak up without fear,” he said.

He added that the initiative is designed as a long-term effort rather than a one-off event.

“Unlike a one-off event, the Hak Kitak: School Edition is implemented continuously through the adopted school approach, aiming to create safer and more informed school environments,” he said.

Fadillah noted that the programme is particularly relevant in addressing current challenges faced by students.

“With bullying and cyberbullying becoming increasingly concerning in today’s digital world, the programme seeks to make students more aware, courageous in taking action, and supportive of one another,” he said.

He added that the initiative aligns with the Malaysia MADANI vision of building a knowledgeable, ethical and dignified generation through collective efforts, while emphasising the importance of Ilmu (Knowledge), Iman (Faith), Amal (Action), and Akhlak (Morality) in shaping balanced individuals.
