JULAU: Suspicious conduct put two brothers in custody yesterday (Jan 25), with drug tests later confirming both had abused illegal substances.

The men, aged 27 and 32, were stopped along Jalan Wak, Pakan during ‘Ops Tapis Khas’ after officers on routine patrol flagged their unusual behaviour.

Julau police chief DSP Alif Haiqal Ramesh Abdullah said initial checks found no illegal items on them. However, both were taken to Pakan police station for further screening.

“Urine tests later confirmed that both brothers tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

“Investigations found a long-running pattern of drug abuse, with the elder brother admitting he had been involved since 2020  while the younger confessed to abusing drugs since 2023,” he said.

Background checks found that the younger brother had a prior drug-related record, while the elder brother had no prior records.

During questioning, both admitted that they last abused syabu at their home on Jan 2, and claimed the drugs were obtained from an Indonesian man operating in the Bintangor area.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Alif Haiqal said police would continue to intensify efforts to curb drug abuse, particularly in Pakan and Julau districts, and urged the public to share information on drug-related activities to Julau police station at 084-734216 or Pakan police station at 011-65749711.
