KUCHING: A total of 108 stalls have completed an online ballot process to secure trading lots at the Satok Ramadan Bazaar on Tuesday (Jan 27).

The ballot process was organised by the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) as an improvement measure to ensure more systematic, transparent and fair management of the Ramadan bazaar.

The online ballot method was chosen to ensure every trader has an equal opportunity, without favouritism or interference from any parties.

In a statement, DBKU said the Satok Ramadan Bazaar will operate throughout Ramadan 2026, from Feb 19 to March 20, daily from 2pm to 7pm.

The bazaar aims to provide a structured business platform for small and medium traders, especially local entrepreneurs generating seasonal income during Ramadan.

In addition, the Ramadan bazaar serves as a catalyst for the local economy by encouraging trading activities and increasing economic flow in Satok and surrounding areas.

The main objective of the bazaar is to help traders increase their income through more conducive, safe and competitive business opportunities.

DBKU has also set guidelines on cleanliness, food safety and waste management to ensure visitor comfort and to preserve Kuching’s city image.

These measures indirectly enhance public confidence in the quality and safety of food products sold throughout the Ramadan period.

At the same time, the organisation of the bazaar aims to strengthen relations between the local authority and the trader community through continuous cooperation and effective monitoring.

Also present and participating in the ballot were DBKU council member Iskandar Sharkawi and DBKU Licensing Division head Samsury Sahari.
