KUCHING: Isuzu’s truck market share hit a record 56.1 per cent in 2025 as Malaysia’s commercial vehicle and pick-up markets fell.

Isuzu Malaysia said its vehicle sales held steady in 2025, even as demand for diesel-powered vehicles continued to dwindle after the 2024 diesel price policy revision.

It said the commercial vehicle sector fell 11.4 per cent, while the pick-up truck market dropped 7.3 per cent.

On trucks, Isuzu recorded 6,880 registrations to reach the 56.1 per cent share, up from its previous high of 47.1 per cent achieved in 2023.

In pick-ups, the Isuzu D-Max strengthened its position to command 15 per cent of the pick-up truck segment, lifting the brand to a firm overall No. 2 nationwide position.

Isuzu Elf remained Malaysia’s most popular truck for a 16th consecutive year, with 6,362 units registered.

The company said this made up 92.5 per cent of trucks sold last year.

In the medium-duty segment, it said the Forward trucks again became the country’s best-selling medium-duty truck, with 494 units sold in 2025.

Chief Executive Officer of Isuzu Malaysia, Tomoyuki Yamaguchi, linked the good performance to its network and after-sales support.

“The ability of a well-positioned dealership network that quickly adapted to the changing demands of customers have all played a part in the brand’s growing popularity,” he said.

He added that an after-sales backbone system that is fully focused on keeping customers constantly moving has also contributed to the brand’s growing popularity.

Leveraging on the current Isuzu line-up, he said the company’s immediate focus will be on enhancing the ownership experience, particularly in after-sales.

“While we witnessed a 12 per cent intake increase in our after-sales business last year, we believe that through improved services, quicker turn-around visits and greater parts availability, we will be able to provide our customers with even more seamless maintenance visits.

“That would provide our customers with less down time and more enriched drives,” he added.
