BALING, Kedah: A woman suffered losses amounting to RM10,000 after her handbag, which was left inside her car, was stolen near a supermarket in Kupang last Thursday.
Baling District Police Chief, Supt Brandon Anak Richard Joe, said that the incident is believed to have occurred around 8:40 am that day when the woman parked her grey Perodua Avanza by the side of the supermarket.
“A police report was received at 11:40 am the same day. The woman reportedly left her car and entered the supermarket to buy groceries. After she finished shopping, the victim returned home and realised her backpack was missing from the vehicle,” he said in a statement today.
According to him, investigations revealed that the vehicle was parked approximately 15 meters from the supermarket’s front entrance.
“A review of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at the scene found a local man, estimated to be in his 20s or 30s, had opened the front door of the vehicle and fled with the victim’s backpack.
“The RM10,000 in cash belonged to the victim and was business proceeds she had brought along to be deposited into the bank,” he said adding that the case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft. – BERNAMA
