KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) has been named the First Place Winner of the Best Higher Education Institution Award 2025 by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), marking a significant national milestone for the university.

The prestigious award, presented by MDEC under the Ministry of Digital Malaysia, recognises excellence in digital entrepreneurship and innovation among higher education institutions.

“The achievement builds on its strong performance in 2024, with the university fulfilling all entrepreneurship key performance indicators (KPIs),” UNIMAS said in a statement today.

The recognition was attributed to its mature entrepreneurship ecosystem under the Hal Ehwal Pelajar dan Alumni (HEPA), supported by structured governance, high-impact programmes and a strategic institutional direction.

UNIMAS emphasised digital marketing, data-driven decision-making and artificial intelligence applications to equip students with practical, real-world business skills.

Through experiential learning and industry collaborations, the university has produced graduates with entrepreneurial mindsets, relevant digital competencies and the ability to scale sustainable businesses.

The university said the accolade reflects the strong commitment of its staff and facilitators as it continues to prioritise digital transformation, AI innovation and graduate employability.
