SRI AMAN: The Sarawak Games (SUKSAR) IV has concluded with the Northern Zone leading the medal tally at 108, but fierce competition from Southern, Central, and Western zones kept the race intense throughout.
The Northern Zone finished with a total of 108 medals, comprising 39 gold, 37 silver and 32 bronze to secure top honours. The Southern Zone placed second with 30 gold, 28 silver and 24 bronze medals, followed by the Western Zone with 19 golds and the Central Zone with 17 golds.
Despite the Northern Zone’s lead, competition remained tight, with all zones showing strong performances across 11 sports held at three locations from Feb 5 to 8.
Cyclist Kenny Lim Zhen Xiang from Southern Zone, who won four gold medals, received the Promising Male Athlete Award. Western Zone cyclist Nur Ain Ramadhania Abdullah, with five golds, was named Promising Female Athlete.
Both athletes were awarded RM1,500 in cash and trophies during a ceremony officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Also present were Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, and Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development II (Talent Development) Datuk Francis Harden Hollis.
