KUCHING: The NEXTGEN Sarawak programme organised by Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS) has been described as a strategic initiative aimed at nurturing inclusive, structured youth leadership aligned with Sarawak’s development realities.

Its Chief Executive Officer, Udin Bujang, said the programme was designed as a platform to provide youths from diverse backgrounds with exposure to their roles in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), as well as entrepreneurship.

“Throughout the programme, participants were exposed to balanced content encompassing knowledge, policy understanding, practical skills and leadership development.

“Workshops related to STEM and TVET provided clear insights into Sarawak’s future workforce requirements,” he said when speaking at the closing dinner of the NEXTGEN Sarawak programme here on Friday (Feb 13).

Udin added that sharing sessions on entrepreneurship, the digital economy, the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), and the Sarawak Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES) further broadened participants’ perspectives on the state’s direction and available opportunities.

Participants were also trained through project proposal writing, group discussions and presentations, enhancing their strategic thinking skills, teamwork and confidence in articulating ideas.

The three-day programme, held from Feb 11 to 13, gathered 20 Sarawakian youths aged between 18 and 28 from various universities and colleges.

It served as a structured and inclusive youth leadership development platform, focusing on the state’s needs in STEM, TVET and entrepreneurship.

Also present were Head of Higher Education Division at the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD), Sharifah Fariah Syed Junaidi; Senior Manager of TEGAS Community Innovative Learning, Fredick Kevin Buseli; and Senior Marketing Executive of Sarawak Skills, Awang Mohamad Hasrekim Awang Yusof.
