BALIK PULAU, Penang: Finance Minister II, Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, says he has not made any decision on whether he will contest in the next General Election (GE).

Instead, he said he intends to continue serving the country as a technocrat.

He said his reputation had been built as a professional contributing expertise in the fields of economics and finance, a role that was currently being carried out through his position as Finance Minister II.

“Let me strive to help the country in the way that I can, and at this time, I have the opportunity to contribute through my duties as Finance Minister II,” he said when asked about the possibility of contesting in the next GE, after the MADANI Adopted Village Walkabout Session at Kampung Pulau Betong.

Amir Hamzah was born at the Penang General Hospital but grew up in Kuala Lumpur due to his father’s service in the government sector.

The former chief executive officer of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) was sworn in as a senator effective Dec 12, 2023, and his term runs until Dec 11, 2026. – BERNAMA
