SAMARAHAN: A high-level water tank is set to be constructed in the Kampung Tanjung Bundong Phase 4 Expansion Scheme to ensure sufficient water supply for the growing number of households.
Utilities and Telecommunications Minister, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, said engineers have identified a strategic location within Phase 4 of the expansion scheme, and has asked Sarawak Water to assess the need for a high-level tank there.
“We have identified the site, and I have asked Land and Survey officer to approve it, as the site must be officially approved by Land and Survey.
“A high-level tank is essential, as Phase Four will have 337 houses, with 32 already completed and a total of 834 houses across Phases One to Four,” he said during a media conference at the Phase 4 expansion site today.
Regarding the construction timeline, he said, if approved, the project should be carried out quickly, following the same urgency as the Kampung Sungai Mata project.
“This is my condition: when users need water and electricity facilities, they should be completed as soon as possible.
“If Sarawak Water can complete it promptly, we allow the shortest possible time. Insya-Allah, it cannot be delayed any longer because consumers need water.
“For electricity, we must be realistic. If SESCO or SEB require four months, we allow four months. But for water, our engineers are already on-site. The only pending item is the high-level tank,”he said.
Julaihi also highlighted ongoing infrastructure upgrades, including a new pipeline from Kampung Tanjung Bundong Tradisi that has been tendered.
“We have the allocated funds I mentioned earlier, approved by the Sarawak Government, RM1.1 billion for all of Sarawak over five years. This year alone, RM214 million is allocated.
“Therefore, I urge Sarawak Water Board and JBALB to implement the replacement of old pipes and pipe upgrades as quickly as possible.
“Insya-Allah, we will monitor continuously. Delivery must be expedited. Insya-Allah, water will reach users before the festive period,” he said.
