KUCHING: The spirit of unity and multicultural harmony in Sarawak was evident during the state-level Chinese New Year open house held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.

National Unity Minister, Datuk Seri Aaron Ago Dagang, described the occasion as unique, highlighting how people from various ethnic and religious backgrounds came together to celebrate the festive season.

“First of all, Happy Chinese New Year, Year of the Horse. I think today is very unique for us in Sarawak,” he said when met by reporters at the event.

Aaron noted that gatherings such as the open house reflect the core aspirations of the National Unity Ministry, which aims to foster integration and strengthen understanding among Malaysia’s diverse communities.

“On every occasion like this, we want to express our gratitude for the involvement of various ethnic groups.

“Indeed, our objective is to create a platform for everyone to integrate in an atmosphere like this,” he said.

He added that Sarawak continues to set an example in promoting unity, observing that festive celebrations in the state are warmly embraced by all segments of society.

“In Sarawak, I see this as something that is very enthusiastically celebrated by the whole community, regardless of race and religion,” he said.

Aaron also briefly mentioned that he would be heading to Sibu as part of his engagements during the festive season.

The state-level Chinese New Year open house, which was attended by Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, drew a large turnout, reflecting the strong spirit of togetherness that remains a hallmark of Sarawak’s multicultural society.
