KUCHING: The atmosphere at the Satok Ramadan Bazaar grew increasingly vibrant as crowds began arriving as early as 3 pm to look for dishes to break their fast on the first day of Ramadan.
The main walkway of the bazaar was gradually filled with visitors strolling leisurely while browsing through each stall, with the crowd becoming noticeably busier as the time for breaking fast approached.
A survey by Sarawak Tribune found that rainy weather did not dampen the spirit of the public, who continued to throng the area.
Some were even willing to queue for a long time to get their preferred food items.
Traders were seen diligently arranging their dishes, calling out to customers and ensuring their stalls were neat and orderly to attract visitors.
Children were clearly excited accompanying their parents, while senior citizens took the opportunity to select food while catching up with acquaintances they met by chance.
More interestingly, the bazaar was not only frequented by the Malay community, but also attracted people from various backgrounds regardless of race and religion, adding to the lively atmosphere.
Meanwhile, a total of 108 stalls are available at the bazaar, offering a wide variety of food, beverages and desserts to cater to visitors’ tastes.
Out of that number, 82 stalls are allocated for food sales, 22 for beverages and four stalls specifically for grilled items.
Among the crowd favourites are grilled chicken, kuih bongkol, murtabak, roti john and a variety of colourful drinks, which consistently receive encouraging response every Ramadan season.
In the meantime, Deputy Minister for Utility (Sarawak Energy and PETROS), who is Satok state assemblyman, Datuk Ibrahim Baki, was present to officiate the Satok Ramadan Bazaar that afternoon.
Also present were Kuching North City Hall Mayor, Datuk Hilmy Othman, and others.
