KUCHING: In keeping with the spirit of Ramadan, Hotel Samudra brought warmth to the community by distributing 300 packets of its signature bubur pedas to the public around its compound.
According to the Samudra Hotel’s operations manager, Khairul Syafiq, the bubur pedas distribution programme has been conducted since 2019.
“However, the programme was temporarily stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic before being resumed continuously until today.
“Today, we distributed a total of 300 packets of bubur pedas to members of the public around the hotel area, particularly along the main road,” he said when met by reporters during the Bubur Pedas Distribution Programme at Hotel Samudra here today.
Additionally, he said that the hotel would distribute 100 packets of bubur pedas every Friday throughout the month of Ramadan after Asar prayers.
“Throughout Ramadan, we will distribute 100 packets of bubur pedas every Friday to mosques around the Satok area, including the mosque in Kampung Nombor.
“Therefore, we will distribute bubur pedas after the Asar prayer as part of the hotel’s ongoing effort to share sustenance and reach out to the local community,” he said.
Sharing the uniqueness of the bubur pedas prepared, Khairul said the dish recipe is passed down through generations.
“The bubur pedas is cooked by a local chef using traditional recipe passed down through generations belonging to the hotel owner’s family.
“This bubur pedas is one of our signature dishes and serves as our main offering sold throughout the year, not only during Ramadan,” he shared.
Meanwhile, he said the hotel is also offering breaking-of-fast meals through the Samudra Set Talam concept at Kafe Ombak, which is made available annually throughout Ramadan.
“There are three set talam options, namely the Set Talam Saujana, Set Talam Bahtera and Set Talam Bayu.
“Each set features different main dishes, such as Set Talam Saujana which serves ayam pecek and daging masak hitam.
“Meanwhile, Set Talam Bahtera offers ikan tenggiri asam pedas with daging masak hitam, while Set Talam Bayu features prawns cooked in chilli garlic oil and spiced fried chicken,” he explained.
The set talam offerings are priced from RM79 to RM179 for adults and between RM20 and RM25 for children.
He added that all sets are complemented with fresh herbs and vegetables (ulam-ulaman), bubur pedas, sambal belacan, white rice, salted fish, assorted traditional cakes and fruits, as well as complimentary drinks such as cordial and coffee or tea.
