MIRI: The Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Marudi Division has reached over 10,000 members, making it one of the party’s largest divisions by membership.
In a report by TVS, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, said this achievement demonstrates the strength and unity of the party in the Marudi area.
He said that it also ensures participation from various segments of society across different races and religions.
“We should be proud because PDP’s membership in Marudi has now exceeded 10,000 people, compared to other divisions which only have 4,000 to 5,000 members,” he said.
He said this during a media conference of the PDP Marudi Tri-Annual General Meeting (TGM) held here today (Feb 22).
The meeting also saw the election of the new PDP Marudi committee, including the leadership lineup at the main committee level, the youth movement, and the women’s movement.
Penguang, who is also Marudi state assemblyman, emphasised that the committee elections were conducted based on the principle of inclusiveness.
He added that members from other parties, including Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), were included to ensure everyone has the opportunity to work together for the people.
“I also want to stress that here in Marudi, it does not matter whether you are from PDP, PBB, or PRS. We are all one,” he added.
With this membership achievement, Marudi is seen as an example of an active and united PDP division, thereby strengthening the party’s influence ahead of the upcoming state election.
