SIBU: The prosperity and development of this riverine town rely on the collective efforts of every member of the multi-ethnic community.

Pointing out this, Teochew Association Sibu (TAS) chairman, Kapitan Su Ngio Kee, stated only through unity and cooperation that it is able to move forward to address challenges, seizing opportunities, and injecting stronger momentum into Sibu’s stable, vibrant and sustainable development.

“In this regard, I earnestly call upon leaders from the political, economic and cultural sectors, members of the local councils, and government officials of all levels, regardless of ethnic, religious, or cultural background, to continue upholding the belief that “we are all in the same boat” and to remember the profound kinship of “we are one family”.

“Only through inclusiveness and mutual trust can we ignite creativity and vitality,” he said at the TAS’ Chinese New Year (CNY) Open house held at SJKC Chung Hua’s Outdoor Hall here today.

Touching on the CNY, Su said it is an important time in Chinese culture for reunion, celebration and bidding farewell to the old while welcoming the new.

More than that, he stressed that it serves as a bridge for promoting dialogue among diverse cultures and fostering unity among the multi-ethnic community.

“Today, as we open our doors, it is not only to share the joy of the festival but also to allow everyone, through sharing traditional delicacies, enjoying cultural performances and engaging in heartfelt conversations, to personally experience the spirit of harmony and integration at the heart of CNY celebrations.

“We believe that it is through such exchanges and interactions that misunderstandings can be dispelled, mutual understanding deepened and bonds strengthened – enabling to see our common humanity amidst diversity, learn respect through our differences, and truly walk side by side toward building a more harmonious, inclusive and prosperous society where all coexist in peace,” he said.

This Lunar New year of the Horse symbolises galloping progress, perseverance and hope, Su said, while urging all to collectively ignite new aspirations for the future, embrace what lies ahead with open hearts, and contribute through practical actions to the development of Sibu.
