KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) Vice-President, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, has been appointed as the new Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman following the resignation of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (BERSATU) President, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, more than a month ago.
PN Deputy Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, announced the appointment at a media conference after the coalition supreme council’s extraordinary meeting at PAS headquarters here today.
“The meeting also approved Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation as PN chairman effective Jan 1, 2026,” he said.
Takiyuddin also said that discussions about a new Parliament Opposition Leader to replace Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, who was sacked from BERSATU, were still ongoing and that component parties agreed that the position should be held by PAS.
“But there has yet to be a decision as PAS requires a bit more time to study the matter,” he said. – BERNAMA
