KUCHING: Sri Aman will host the Sarawak-level Nuzul Al-Quran 2026 with an estimated 1,200 to 1,500 people expected to gather at the Bandar Sri Aman Mosque.

According to the Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, preparations are underway to ensure the smooth running of the event on 16 Ramadan 1447 Hijrah (March 7).

“We are grateful that by the will of Allah SWT, we are able to gather today to finalise preparations for this year’s Nuzul Al-Quran celebration,” he told reporters after chairing the final coordination meeting held at the Majlis Islam Sarawak meeting room on Monday (Feb 23).

Additionally, he said the programme will begin at 6pm with the arrival of invited guests, followed by the Maghrib call to prayer and a communal breaking of fast.

Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, are expected to grace the event, alongside the Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, and other state leaders.

The celebration is themed, “Ummah Maju Makmur, Insan Berilmu Menjulang Kelestarian Alam” (A Progressive and Prosperous Ummah, Knowledgeable Individuals Upholding Environmental Sustainability), which will be adopted for major Islamic events throughout 2026.

Among the highlights of the evening will be a Quran recitation by Jubni Sulong, the newly crowned Sarawak Tilawah champion, followed by a Nuzul-Al Quran sermon by Dr Syarif Abdul, the director of the Centre for Islamic Studies at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and the Premier is also scheduled to deliver a special address.

Dr Abdul Rahman also said that three side events have also been arranged in Sri Aman to complement the main celebration, which includes a Forum Perdana Saudara Kita at the Sri Simanggang Hotel on March 6, an Al-Quran Seminar at the SK Agama Sri Aman Hall on March 5, and a Ramadan outreach programme at the Hayatul Islam Surau, Kampung Hulu Leman, also on March 5.

“This celebration is not just a ceremonial gathering. It is a platform to strengthen understanding of the Al-Quran and to reinforce unity within the community,” he said.
