KUCHING: The Technical Committee on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) is scheduled to meet on March 2 to deliberate on outstanding issues ahead of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63) session.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said the meeting was originally scheduled for Feb 28 but was postponed due to some issues.
“Several unresolved matters remain under negotiation, which will first be discussed by the technical committee level meeting before being presented to the MTPMA63, which will decide on the date and timing of the main council session.
“Of the 13 issues resolved, nine have been addressed under the Madani government.
“The issues include special grants for Sabah and Sarawak under Article 112D of the Federal Constitution, which account for about 40 per cent of the discussions,” he said during a media conference after the Minister’s Address at the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah & Sarawak) Meeting with Heads of Departments and Federal Agencies in Sarawak at Sultan Iskandar Building here on Tuesday (Feb 24).
On the Sarawak petition concerning petroleum, Mustapha said the federal government respects the submission by the Sarawak government but emphasised that the matter is currently before the courts.
“The matter is currently before the court and should be determined through the legal process.”
