KUCHING: A total of RM68,000 in Minor Rural Projects (MRP) funds was handed over today at Baitulmakmur Building II to five organisations to support their community, professional, and cultural programmes.

The cheques were distributed by Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, who said the allocations are part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen grassroots associations.

“The MRP enables local associations to sustain and expand their activities for the benefit of their members and communities,” he said.

Among the beneficiaries are the Sarawak Nursing Professional Association, Persatuan Bakat Dayak Sarikei, and Persatuan Segu Bunuk Penrissen each received RM20,000 to support ongoing programmes.

Snowdan highlighted that these funds will help strengthen professional development, nurture local talent, and preserve cultural practices.

The Kelab Rando Pejabat Residen Bahagian Samarahan was allocated RM5,000, while the Islamic Welfare Association of the Public Works Department Samarahan Branch received RM3,000.

These smaller allocations are aimed at enhancing community welfare and social support initiatives in their respective areas.

Snowdan emphasised the importance of using the funds prudently to maximise benefits for local communities, noting that the MRP initiative assists both established and emerging organisations, ensuring that even smaller groups have access to resources to carry out their activities effectively.

He concluded that initiatives like the MRP not only strengthen individual organisations but also contribute to the overall development and well-being of Sarawak’s diverse communities.
